So back-to-school season is upon us, and whether you’re in high school or college, there are some things that are important to always have on you. Personally, I’m 21 years old and will be a Sophomore in college, so I know a thing or two about what I need to have on me when I’m stuck in a school all day. I thought I’d make this to help anyone out who doesn’t know what to bring to school in case of emergencies.
First, start off with a cute, small makeup bag.
This is one I found of forever21.com for $7.90. I love holographic things and this would even match my wallet. It’s just a small, zippered makeup bag. It can fit in your back pack or purse without a problem.
I think the MOST important thing to have is tampons. I’m not going to insert a picture just because that’d be kind of weird, but get the small travel size tampons so they fit in your makeup bag nicely.
Next, travel size deodorant.
Get whatever scent you prefer, but have a small size deodorant in your makeup bag thats just for school, especially for the beginning and end of year when it’s hot out, or even if you leave home and forget to put it on one day. I’ve done that before, and I don’t want to ever do it again.
Next, for you oily monsters, like me, Oil Absorbing Sheets.
These are just by clean and clear, but a lot of different companies make them. If you’ve never seen these before, and you have oily skin, you’re welcome. They’re tissue paper like sheets that absorb oil from your face. There are even some out there that have vitamins or tea tree in them which is good for your skin. You can get these ones at any CVS or Walgreens.
Next is lip care.
I HIGHLY recommend the Carmex lip balm in a stick. Throughout high school I tried NUMEROUS kinds of lip balm. But Carmex is the only one the really worked for me. Every other lip balm i’ve tried just dries out my lips further or does nothing, and so I feel like I need to apply it 20 times. Carmex isn’t like that. Apply is once, and your lips feel nice and moisturized. The smell and taste isn’t spectacular, but I still suggest this over all others.
Next is bobby pins AND hair ties. Again, I’m not going to insert a picture, because it’s pretty self explanatory, but you never know when you’ll need either. If you play a sport after school, sometimes you can forget a hair tie, so keep a few in your makeup bag just incase. Or if you’re having a day where your hair just isn’t cooperating, bobby pins are key.
Next is gum.
It’s important to have gum for a few reasons. No body wants bad breath. Whether you forgot to brush your teeth that morning, or you ate something at lunch with onions or garlic that gave your mouth a bad taste, gum is important to have on you. I recommend mint gum over any other because I love mint, AND because it has the longest lasting taste and gives your mouth a fresher scent over fruity gums. Buy a 3 pack like this for the year and keep one in your makeup bag at a time.
Next, keep a bottle of hand sanitizer.
Now I know not everyone is a germaphobe like me, but if you are, or even if you aren’t, keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer in your makeup bag. Bath and Body Works makes all the fancy ones which is fine, but just a basic bottle of Purell will do the job too. Schools are so germ filled that it freaks me out just thinking about it. PLEASE keep a bottle of this with you to sanitize whenever you can’t wash your hands, or just feel you need some. Try to do it before and after you eat too. It’s kind of common sense.
A few other things you can bring but aren’t a necessity are…
Hand lotion – Especially in the winter time, my hands can get pretty dry, or even after using sanitizer they feel dry. Bring a small, travel size bottle of lotion for those times you feel you need it.
Advil + Bandaids – You can get both of these things at the nurse, but if for whatever reason you feel you should have them on you, then go for it. I text to get migraines, so I like to carry Excedrin Migraine on me which nurses usually don’t have, so thats a special circumstance where I feel I need to carry that.
Nail File – Not everyone picks at their nails like me, but if you do, you know how annoying it is when your nails become uneven in an area. If you’re one of those people like me who are OCD about your nails being even at all times, carry a nail file with you.
These are things I have found to be very important to have at all times. Feel free to add or subtract things from your bag, but make sure you have an Emergency Kit for yourself for back to school.
